Two teams of middle school students, one from each side of the state, created projects that won American Indian History Awards at this year’s National History Day in South Dakota competition. The competition theme was “Breaking Barriers in History.” In alphabetical order, the projects are:

“Billy Mills: The Pursuit of a Dream,” a film by Elsa Friesen, Lily Ralston-Perreault and Katelyn Elrod: Edison Middle School, Sioux Falls.

“Navajo Code Talkers and the Unbreakable Code,” an exhibit by Odessa Clarkson and Kelsi Costello: Harding County Middle School - 03.

Congratulations to the students on their rigorous research and excellent projects!
