The Pot-Holed Road of American Indian Tourism in South Dakota

Tuesday, August 10, 2021

This week’s column takes a peek behind the curtain of how the South Dakota Native Tourism Alliance (SDNTA) was established by an out-of-state, private university and the South Dakota Department of Tourism. SDNTA is funded by the NATIVE Act, which is intended to build capacity in tribal lands, empower tribal communities, and support tribal sovereignty. Instead of fulfilling these purposes, SDNTA appears to be funneling funds to the South Dakota Department of Tourism and to George Washington University in Washington, DC.
